I watched “The Shining” for the first time three years ago. I didn't find it scary, at the end I was thinking: “What the eff did I watch?” LOL, it's a cult classic I suppose, but it didn't hit for me. Mind you, I don't really like horror so I was surprised with my own reaction.
Hi Vivian! I'm not going to try to talk you into liking horror - we've got way too much of that going on in real life these days. But you're in good company not feeling THE SHINING on first viewing. Steven Spielberg talks about how he was left cold by the first viewing, but gave it another try because so many people were raving. Now it's one of his favorite films and he's seen it more than 25 times. I love it for the dreamlike, hypnotic quality but find it most chilling for the dead-on portrayal of domestic violence.
Hmm, interesting, maybe I'll give it another try, who knows. There were some good moments. But I will say, I was happy the mom and son got away.
